Kamal launched his own sweets shop in the Al-Kubaisa sub-district

Kamal Hadi Sahab is a 43-year-old man, originally from the Al Heet district's Al-Kubaisa sub-district of Iraq. He lives with his family and has three children, two sons and a girl. Before the ISIS attack on the area, Kamal worked as a daily wage laborer in a local factory. After returning, he worked as a selfemployeed. Kamal had always wanted to open his own sweets factory in the region but he lacked the money to do so. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), he was finally able to launch his confectionery business.

Yasmine Raed Najm is a married woman with three children from the Al-Muhammadi sub-district, Al-Heet district, Anbar Governorate. She has always dreamed of starting her own business and helping other women of her area. But in Iraq after the conflict, it was not easy. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic and UNDP, Yasmine was able to open her salon.

Fadhel's family now has more security and dignified living conditions

Fadhel Hassan Hussain is a 31-year-old electrician and construction worker from Kale Khan in Sinjar district, Ninewa governorate. When ISIS took over Sinjar in 2014, Fadhel and his family were forced to flee to Duhok Governorate, where they struggled to find a place to live. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic, Fadhel’s family was able to upgrade their latrines and now can lead a more dignified life.

Rana opened the first private educational institute in the Al-Muhammedi Sub-District

Rana AbdulRazzaq is a mechanical engineer who graduated from the University of Anbar Mechanical Engineering Department in 2012 in Anbar Governorate. Unfortunately, she had no luck getting employed. She was disappointed trying to find a job in the engineering sector. Nevertheless, Rana always loved her department. She liked solving mathematical problems and also always wanted to teach others. Thanks to the support of Caritas Czech Republic and the UNDP, Rana was able to open a small education centre where she gives private lessons and earns a living.

Zikra - a young woman from Anbar who dreams of becoming a photographer

A resident of Heet District in Anbar, Zikra is a 20-year-old woman trying to find her own place in life. Her family consists of her mother, three sisters, and a brother. Now that Zikra is back in school, she has enrolled in the secondary school program. She joined the Like Skills Training organized by Caritas Czech Republic in Iraq and hopes to save enough money to pursue her dream of becoming a photographer.
