Masoud's story: How a Caritas grant helped him rebuild his life after he lost everything in the war

Masoud Ablahad Ishaq is a 53-year-old man who lives in the town of Bashiqa in Iraq with his family. He had to leave his hometown because of the war and after the area was liberated from ISIS, Masoud returned to Bashiqa and had to spend all of his life savings to reconstruct his home. Thanks to the grant from Caritas Czech Republic, he is now able to stand on his own two feet again.

May's journey and the difficulties she faced

May Akram Abdulahad is 46-year-old and lives in the Iraqi town of Bashiqa. When she was growing up, her family was facing many hardships which made it impossible for May to complete her secondary school. She also had to leave her hometown because of the conflict and after returning she was facing difficulties with finding a job. After joining our training, May gained new knowledge and was able to increase her income.

Hussam's story: How one training altered his career path from medicine to journalism

 Hussam Khairy Khalil is a 28-year-old from the Iraqi town of Bashiqa where he lives with his family. Altough Hussam has a degree in pharmacy from the Medical Institute's Department of Pharmacy in Ninewa, he has always enjoyed working in the field of journalism and media. As it is difficult to find a job in the region, Hussam was happy to join a training course organized by Caritas Czech Republic and now has the essential skills needed to find a proper job.

Mr. Muhammed is 45-year-old. Along with his parents and grandparents, he used to work as a shepherd in the Heet countryside in Iraq. But because of the conflict he had to flee his home and went through difficult times when he was kidnapped by ISIS. After returning to Heet, he could not find any source of livelihood to support his family. Now he has a solid employment thanks to his participation in Caritas' Life Skills training.

Salwa is 43 year-old, has been a resident of Heet Center for almost two decades. She was born in Fallujah, married in Heet, and has lived there ever since with her family. Her family consists of her husband, son, and two daughters. She spent her entire life as a housewife, primarily in handicrafts.
