We encountered many inspiring stories during our work. Stories of people who overcame obstacles and managed to stand on their own feet. Stories of people who have persevered during difficult times and motivate others to take life into their own hands. Now we would like you to meet them too.

Sarri has established a thriving butchery business and can comfortably support his family thanks to Caritas Czech Republic’s support

Starting a business requires management skills and money for essential tools. In areas once under ISIS control, locals find it even tougher to set up businesses. Sarri, from Al-Amiriah in Iraq, a father of three, chose to open his butchery after parting ways with his business partner. Caritas Czech Republic assisted Sarri with management training and funds for needed supplies.

Meethaq from Iraq opened his own welding workshop thanks to Caritas Czech Republic

Finding work in Iraq today is not easy. The country has been scarred by decades of conflict that have prevented its development. There are many skilled craftspeople in Iraq, but they often do not have the means to open their own businesses. Like Meethaq. He had to flee his home because of the self-proclaimed Islamic State and struggled to find a living upon his return. Thanks to our help, Meethaq now has his own business as a welder.

The Islamic State burnt his farm three times. Sami did not give up and is now farming again

Sami Nouh Daboul is a persistent farmer from Iraq. His family are Assyrian Christians who were targeted by ISIS during its rule over Iraq. They had to flee to safety but found their way back home after the so-called Islamic State left. Sami received crucial assistance from Caritas Czech Republic to rebuild his farm and get back on his feet.

Bidaa from Iraq has grown her business and plans to go to college, thanks to Caritas Czech Republic

Bidaa Mohammed is, a 26-year-old girl from Al-Amiriah district, Anbar Governorate in Iraq. She was born into a large family; her mother was a seamstress and passed on this tradition to her. During the ISIS control of Anbar governorate, Bidaa and her family stayed in the Al-Amiriah district. It has been three years since she started her tailoring profession. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic, Bidaa can now sew more clothes and grow her customer circle.
