As part of our development cooperation, we help people to cut loose and make a living. How Caritas Czech Republic helps Iraqis find jobs

Iraq relies heavily on oil for its income, with most jobs in the government and the oil industry. As the world transitions to a green economy and cleaner energy sources, many Iraqis could be at risk of losing their jobs in the coming years. Decades of conflict have also pushed many into poverty and deprived them of their livelihoods. The recent conflict with the so-called Islamic State displaced over 6 million people within Iraq. They were forced to flee and could not find jobs upon their return.

Bidaa from Iraq has grown her business and plans to go to college, thanks to Caritas Czech Republic

Bidaa Mohammed is, a 26-year-old girl from Al-Amiriah district, Anbar Governorate in Iraq. She was born into a large family; her mother was a seamstress and passed on this tradition to her. During the ISIS control of Anbar governorate, Bidaa and her family stayed in the Al-Amiriah district. It has been three years since she started her tailoring profession. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic, Bidaa can now sew more clothes and grow her customer circle.

Muna Abdullah Bazy is a 35 years old mother of six children from Iraq. She could not finish her education because she got married young and had to take care of the family. But her husband abandoned Muna and their children. Muna suddenly became a single mother and did not know how to provide for her family. Until she received a business training and a grant from Caritas Czech Republic.

Nofel Ahmed Mahmood, a 23-year-old male who lives with a disability, faced financial difficulties and limited job opportunities after completing his education and could not provide for his family. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic, he registered in on-the-job training and found an opportunity to work as a teacher and practice his profession. Today, Nofel has a job he enjoys and now has a steady income to support his family.
