What we do

We help where we are needed. We provide immediate humanitarian aid to people affected by war or natural disaster. As part of our development cooperation, we help people to cut loose and make a living. We focus on the development of health care and social protection as well as  rural development and environmental protection and actively work on systemic changes in Iraq.

Fadhel's family now has more security and dignified living conditions

Fadhel Hassan Hussain is a 31-year-old electrician and construction worker from Kale Khan in Sinjar district, Ninewa governorate. When ISIS took over Sinjar in 2014, Fadhel and his family were forced to flee to Duhok Governorate, where they struggled to find a place to live. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic, Fadhel’s family was able to upgrade their latrines and now can lead a more dignified life.

Rana opened the first private educational institute in the Al-Muhammedi Sub-District

Rana AbdulRazzaq is a mechanical engineer who graduated from the University of Anbar Mechanical Engineering Department in 2012 in Anbar Governorate. Unfortunately, she had no luck getting employed. She was disappointed trying to find a job in the engineering sector. Nevertheless, Rana always loved her department. She liked solving mathematical problems and also always wanted to teach others. Thanks to the support of Caritas Czech Republic and the UNDP, Rana was able to open a small education centre where she gives private lessons and earns a living.

Schoolgirls and boys will start enjoying a healthy meal in Kirkuk and Ninewa

In Iraq, we partnered with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Iraqi government to work together to improve the national education of local schoolchildren and assist local livelihoods through a school feeding programme. Thanks to the subsidized meals, school attendance will increase and most importantly, children will not go hungry during school hours.

Best of 2021 in Caritas Czech Republic in Iraq

While the year 2021 presented obstacles in the form of economic crises and the Covid-19 pandemic in Iraq and throughout the world, it was also a year of expansion, development, progress, and tremendous achievement in our efforts to serve the community and those in need. We have worked on livelihood, shelter, school feeding, and agriculture projects throughout Iraqi Kurdistan and Federal Iraq. Zikra - a young woman from Anbar who dreams of becoming a photographer

A resident of Heet District in Anbar, Zikra is a 20-year-old woman trying to find her own place in life. Her family consists of her mother, three sisters, and a brother. Now that Zikra is back in school, she has enrolled in the secondary school program. She joined the Like Skills Training organized by Caritas Czech Republic in Iraq and hopes to save enough money to pursue her dream of becoming a photographer.
