Support Livelihoods and Income Generation for Vulnerable Communities

Full name of project: Support livelihoods and income generation for vulnerable communities in the area of return in Ninewa Plain

  • Project duration: April 2020 - December 2020
  • Description: ISIL military operations destroyed most of the water pumping stations and irrigation systems in the Ninewa governorate, which was known as the breadbasket of the country. As a result of that, many of the lands were confiscated from the farmers and controlled by ISIL. Also, crops were destroyed and there are continued problems with insecurity, theft, looting and unexploded ordinances. Another recent devastating hit to the communities is caused by the COVID-19 which caused a stagnation of economic and agricultural activities.
CCR is responding to this issue by supporting at least 60 of the most vulnerable families who live in the area through strengthening agricultural livelihoods and improved value chains. This is done by constructing 15 greenhouses and distributing agricultural inputs to small and medium size farmers. Moreover, we empower vulnerable families economically through strengthening urban livelihoods and supporting the creation of five innovative market-based micro enterprises. On top of that, we provide grants and trainings to small and medium enterprises, prioritizing female-headed households.
  • Donor: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
