Full name of project: Improve national education and support the retention of school students in education through the implementation of National School Feeding Programme in Daquq District, Kirkuk governorate
- Project duration: September 2019 - March 2020
- Description: After the recent violence, life in Iraq is returning to normal. One of the key aspects of that is ensuring regular school attendance. Therefore, CCR had been playing a significant role in encouraging students to attend schools. The project team conducted hygiene promotion sessions and distributed meals to 18,000 school students of grades 1 till 6 enrolled at 65 schools in Daquq, Kirkuk. Each meal contained apple/banana, cheese, bread, water and juice bottles, which helped the children focus in classes, boosted their energy and nourished their bodies.
CCR rented a warehouse, where it stored and processed food for the school students in order to provide the needed nutrition. The workers of the warehouse belonged to the local population, which helped to diversify the skills of the community and create more ways of making a living in the area. - Donors: United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Iraqi Ministry of Education.
