Ameel's story: Bashiqa's youth learn new ways to earn income in the face of a lack of employment

Ameel Ghanim is a 21-year-old man who lives in a small house in Bashiqa District, Ninewa Governorate in Iraq. In the three years that ISIS-occupied this area Ameel and his family relocated to Sarsink Subdistrict in the Duhok Governorate. There were no employment opportunities in Sarsink, and Ameel could not find a job even after returning to Bashiqa. Now, he has hope, thanks to the training from the Caritas Czech Republic, Ameel Learned digital marketing skills.

Digital marketing training and apprenticeship open up a variety of career paths for youth

Ameel graduated from the University of Mosul's Technical Administrative Department after returning to Bashiqa District. Since then, he has struggled to find a job, and recently heard about an opportunity for on-the-job training for youth through social media. He clicked on the link, filled out the form, and submitted it. Ameel was contacted by Caritas Czech Republic after a while and informed that he had been selected from a pool of over 200 Bashiqa youth to participate in this training.

As Ameel says, the team was given extensive training in Digital-Marketing, including how to use social media to increase sales and how to take professional photos.

“This mind-blowing training," Ameel continues, "was desperately needed, since now our ideas aren't constrained, and we know that we can start our own work from home and with the simplest available materials."

“At this time when there are no jobs and we must rely on the establishment and promotion of our small private projects, I want to express my gratitude to Caritas Czech Republic, Smithson Institute, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Government of Japan for giving us this opportunity to learn about the latest marketing techniques," Ameel concludes.
