Currently, the reconstruction of the first half (the first 16) of the houses is being finished and the renovation of the second half of the selected houses continues in Qaraqosh (Al-Hamdaniya in Arabic) in Iraq.
The goal of the project “Improving the living conditions and resilience of the most vulnerable families of returnees through renovation of shelters in the Mandanyia district in the Ninewa governorate in Iraq” is to repair 32 houses and to help two hundred returnees. At the same time, work is being done on improving and increasing the capacity of the local job market through involvement of local foremen and construction workers in the renovation of the houses. The project included a mediation process as its inseparable part: trained mediators help in potential disputes regarding property ownership. Everything continues smoothly, and our colleagues at the mission and the project coordinator estimate that all the houses will have been reconstructed by the end of 2019.
