Improve national education and nutrition of schoolboys and girls while supporting local livelihoods

Full name: Improve national education and nutrition of schoolboys and girls while supporting local livelihoods through the implementation of school feeding programme in Al Ba’aj District, Ninewa.

Duration: October 2020 - May 2021

Lack of sustainable livelihoods and poverty obliges families to adopt negative coping strategies that might include prioritizing food and health against education and children’s well-being. On the other hand, children might not find schools attractive for many reasons, starving during school hours might be one. Attending schools with an empty stomach decreases focus of children in classes significantly. School Feeding Programme is introduced to address these issues since it will not only improve nutrition of children, but also increase access to and achievement in education. School Feeding Programme will cover a notable part of school-related expenses which will help families to alleviate negative coping strategies and protect children from risks associated with such negative strategies (like child labour).
